We have been putting this off for quite some time...Caroline is in a "big girl" bed for the first time tonight! It has taken us all day...just to get the closet clean and reorganized and the crib converted to a full size bed. Whew. I am positively exhausted. We still have some more work to do tomorrow to complete the full transition to "big girl" room, but I'm hoping it won't be quite as involved as today! I got a cute little vanity table with mirror and chair at PBK (it was on sale...that is how I justify it to myself. And RJ.), and a flower canopy to go over her bed. Although I am currently debating if the canopy will be too much. You know, I would hate to be too over-the-top :) But seriously, there is already a lot of furniture, a lot of pink and green, a lot of paisley, and a crystal bunny chandelier in the room. So a flower canopy with tulle might be a little much. We'll just have to try it out and see tomorrow! Poor RJ...bless his heart...love him beyond words...he is so patient with us women folk and our indecisiveness around here :) So hopefully we will be totally done tomorrow and I will post some pictures.
In other Caroline news...
We went to the endocrinologist Thursday. The took a lot of blood and we are awaiting test results. We heard back yesterday regarding her thyroid, and everything was normal. Yay! However...she has high blood pressure. The endocrinologist wanted us to go back to our pediatrician and have it checked again. We went yesterday and saw our most favorite doctor ever (Dr. Miga at Southeast Denver Pediatrics, for any of you Denver mommies). He checked her blood pressure four times, once with the automatic machine and three times himself. Sure enough, she has high blood pressure. This is apparently rare in children, especially at not even 3, and he said that unlike adult high blood pressue that just sometimes happens when we get older, there is something that causes it in children. And then, the word that I have been dreading hearing for the past week (it feels longer than that!)...tumor. He said that her "flushing" episodes (her redness with activity) and high blood pressure are two key symptoms of a certain type of tumor. As you can imagine, we are anxiously awaiting her test results. He did not say that she has a tumor, just that she has two symptoms of a certain type. We are still staying positive and praying that she just has a sensitive little body! He did refer us to a pediatric cardiologist, which we will see Wednesday morning, to try and rule out any heart condition that might be causing these symptoms. Apparently this is pretty much protocol when a child has high blood pressure. Dr. Miga said that the cardiologist will probably want to check her heart structurally, just to make sure that everything is ok, and maybe have her wear a monitor so they can tell what is going on with her heart, blood flow and oxygen when she is active and has an episode. But...we will see what they say on Wednesday. The doctor seems to think that everything will check out fine with her heart, but we just need to be safe and make sure we cover all of our bases. Good news: we got a call today that her urine test to check her kidney functions is normal! Yay! I am just happy to cross things off the list!
Yesterday was a pretty tough day for us. While there isn't anything to be totally worked up over yet, we felt like it was a step back to learn that she does have high blood pressure, it is not normal, and there is usually something going on inside to cause it. We are praying that this next week will bring some answers, if there is something to find, and we can work on making it better!
